šŸŽ¤ Expat Interview

Welcome to our expat spotlight section.

This is where we interview both new and long-term expats in Buenos Aires and ask them to share their tips and recommendations.

Hereā€™s the todayā€™s interview:

Whatā€™s your name, country of origin, and how long have you been in Buenos Aires?

My name is Freddie, Iā€™m from England and Iā€™ve been in Buenos Aires for 9.5 years.

What brought you to Buenos Aires, and how was the initial adjustment process?

I originally moved here to work in a vineyard in Mendoza, after many years working in the wine industry in London.

I ended up switching careers and working as a personal trainer soon after my arrival. I met a lot of my first friends via my classes, it was a really enjoyable period of my life as I had found a career that meant a lot to me and I had made a new group of friends in a foreign country.

I spoke no Spanish but after a few years, it started to improve.

What's been the most challenging aspect of living in Buenos Aires?

The most challenging thing for me has been being so far from my family and friends in England.

Iā€™ve always felt that I would like to return to live in London but the cost of living has kept me away for now.

And what has been the most rewarding aspect of living here?

The most rewarding thing about my time here was meeting my wife and starting a family.

Iā€™m very grateful to the city for allowing me to find a new career and the slower pace of life for giving me time to grow.

What's your favorite local restaurant, bar, or cafe, and why?

I like Los Galgos, itā€™s a very Argentine bar downtown and I have some nice memories there.

What hidden gem in Buenos Aires deserves more recognition?

Perhaps the CCK cultural center downtown, itā€™s a beautiful building and often has live music events and art shows.

What advice would you give to new expats in Buenos Aires?

Take advantage of the slower pace of life and try to focus on improving your health, physical and mental, while in this city.

Thanks Freddie for agreeing to this interview!

šŸ” Interesting Finds

  • Javier Milei in Time magazine: I normally try to avoid politics here, but I thought it was worth mentioning that Argentinaā€™s president got himself listed as one of the top 100 most influential people in the world.

  • Rent prices dropped in these neighborhoods (Spanish): due to the higher availability of apartments, some of the barrios in CABA have experienced a drop in rental prices.
